Inside my Brain

email me

Yeah, right! It seems almost too good to be true, but I still reach for that star and stretch.

In December, I met a man who told me he was the publisher and owner of an up and coming SciFi magazine. He wondered if I would be interested in writing for him - for no pay at first, but with promise of a royalty once advertising monies started pouring in. I agreed; partly because I wanted additional exposure to a new medium, partly because I felt that the perks of the job might outweigh a lack of payment, and partly for the thrill of writing for a magazine "like Maxim with a slight bent toward SciFi." It promised to be on the cutting edge, and to offer a target audience something that they can't find elsewhere.

A few weeks later, we talked by phone (it is odd that he always emails me to ask me to call him...) We discussed the scope of what he wanted, and I started researching immediately for something juicy to sink my teeth in. I found Boris Vallejo! He's a risque and talented painter of fantasy as well as Sci Fi art. I've always been a fan. I took a leap of faith and asked for an interview and was granted one! He has divorced his first wife and is now married to a beautiful and younger woman named Julie Bell who has become well known for her Xmen paintings and especially for her "metal flesh". I was impressed that they granted me an interview so easily. All I had to do was wait a few weeks to allow them to complete their projects.

Meanwhile, I worked on my interview questions. I was rocking!

The "publisher" said he needed to review them first...but he does not understand that a really great interview starts with the standards, but moves easily into a conversation between friends, and that's when I would have gotten the really good stuff out!

He has not tabled my work, but he has tabled the production of his magazine! He said (through mutual friend) that he wants to do podcasts now. Where is the money in that? I don't get it at all.

Either he wants to put out a zine or he doesn't. Either he wants to work with me or he doesn't. I'm not going to hang around and wait for him to make up his mind!
