Every Day is Veteran’s Day at Elmo’s Barber Shop

Cathy Bucklin is one of Brevard County’s hidden treasures. Not only is she a Certified Nurse’s Aid, she is also the owner of Elmo’s Old Fashioned Barber Shop. She has been a stylist for 18 years, but three years ago, she decided to open her own shop for men, women, and children.

Reasonable prices, senior discounts, and specials for Veterans aren’t the only things that set Elmo’s apart from other barbershops and salons. Cathy Bucklin also makes house calls. For a small additional fee, she will make evening and weekend appointments to bring her shop’s services to your residence or hospital room. She currently makes about ten visits a week to local nursing homes, retirement communities, and hospitals. She said, “A client doesn’t have to be invalid for me to give a hair cut at home,” because she realizes that some seniors just don’t have transportation.

One of the reasons she enjoys providing this service is because she likes meeting the people who can’t get out to come to her, such as Rita ”Mim” Semans in Trailer Haven. Ms. Semans volunteered with the Melbourne Civic Theater for more than 30 years as a painter, designing sets. By making house calls, one of our county’s treasures has the opportunity to meet other treasures that can’t get to her.

Elmo’s Old Fashioned Barber Shop is located at 223 Hibiscus Blvd, in Melbourne. For more information or for an appointment, call 321-952-2638 or go to www.elmosbarbershop.com to make a reservation online.
